Frequently Asked Questions
Gold and karats
18 karat means 75 percent of the metal is pure gold, with the rest being other metals that make the piece stronger. Pure gold, 24 karat, is too soft to wear daily. 18k is the most common quality for fine jewelry in Sweden.
14 karat contains 58.5 percent gold, 18 karat contains 75 percent. 18k has a warmer, deeper yellow tone and a higher gold value, while 14k is slightly harder. All our gold jewelry is 18 karat.
It's the same amount of gold, mixed with different metals. Yellow gold has the classic warm tone, red gold contains copper and reads warmer, and white gold is mixed with white metals for a light, silver-coloured tone.
Solid gold and gold-plated
Yes, everything in this collection is solid 18k gold, not plated. That means the whole piece is gold, not just the surface.
Gold-plated jewelry has a thin layer of gold over another metal, usually silver. It looks the same at first, but the surface wears over time. Solid gold keeps its colour and holds its value. We offer both, so you can choose based on budget. See our gold-plated silver jewelry.
Solid 18k gold has a metal value of its own that follows the gold price, unlike plated jewelry. That's one reason many people think of gold jewelry as something you keep for a long time.
Wearing and caring
Yes, 18k gold stands up to daily wear. It's worth taking rings and bracelets off for heavier physical work, and avoiding chlorine and strong cleaning products.
Water doesn't affect gold. Chlorinated water and seawater can wear the surface over time though, especially on pieces with set stones or pearls, so it's better to take those off.
Lukewarm water, a few drops of washing-up liquid and a soft toothbrush is usually enough. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Pearls are more delicate, so just wipe them.
